So yet again, the offseason brings a puzzling surprise for the Phoenix Suns. Suns President/GM Steve Kerr has left the organization. Just a couple weeks ago it appeared he’d re-up, work on keeping Amare and Frye, and try to find a gem in the 2nd round.
Instead, Kerr is likely heading back to his life in San Diego and his old weekly gig at TNT. I was surprised when I heard the news but it is slowly building into anger.
We give our teams the benefit of the doubt. We invest emotionally, financially and most importantly with our time when it comes to our sports teams. We trust that ownership wants to put a compelling and competitive product on the field/court and try to win a championship.
Every year of the Sarver era, the team has been solid but the list of personnel blunders within all levels of the organization has continued to grow. Now when fans finally started to feel Kerr was building a winner- he’s gone.
So now the Suns are at a major crossroads. The roster is screaming for continuity as they went toe-to-toe with the champs and fell just short. The team has three free-agents heading into the biggest free-agent period in league history. If you think Sarver is just going to spend the bucks remember, he’s one of the most vocal owners leading the charge into a lockout next summer.
Can Suns fans trust Robert Sarver?
